Sprint Coaching for Athletes Aged 12+

Developing speed, technique and race performance for 60–400m sprinters.

Is Your Child Fast?

Many young athletes discover their natural speed through school sport or team sports.

Our sprint programme helps athletes develop their acceleration, sprint technique and race performance in a structured and supportive coaching environment.

New sprint athletes are always welcome to attend a club taster session.

Based at Rugby Avenue Running Track, Coleraine

Speed is the ultimate "X-Factor" in modern field sports. Whether you are a winger looking to beat the high line or a midfielder needing that first-step explosiveness, we provide the specialist coaching that team training often misses. At the Speed Development Project, we move beyond generic fitness; we use elite-level technology to deconstruct your sprint mechanics, increase your top-end speed, and turn you into the fastest player on the pitch.

The Speed Development Project is led by Mike Fountain, a specialist athletics coach with a proven track record in sprint development from 60m to 400m. With years of experience coaching at the highest levels — including developing Junior Irish Gold medalists and sub-11s sprinters — Mike’s approach combines old-school coaching intuition with modern sports science.

Under Mike's guidance, the programme is designed to cater to three distinct pathways:

  • The Athletics Track: Developing elite sprint mechanics and competition readiness.

  • The Pitch: Translating raw speed into match-day impact for team-sport athletes.

  • The Path Back: Providing data-led "Return to Play" protocols for athletes recovering from injury.

Mike also works as a tutor with Athletics Northern Ireland, helping to develop athletics coaches across Northern Ireland.

Training focuses on structured sprint development, technical coaching and long-term athlete progression.

“I trained with Mike for 3 months and went from 11.45s to 11.09s in the 100m. This year i ran 10.89s in the 100m”
